Prof. Roberta Rosenberg

Roberta Rosenberg is the Director of the Center for Service Learning and Social Entrepreneurship and a Professor in the Department of English.  She has published three books and a number of articles on American culture and multicultural literature in MELUS, Journal of American Culture, Studies in American Indian Literatures, Pedagogy, Vitalpoetics and other scholarly journals.  Dr. Rosenberg holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and has taught as a Fulbright Teaching Fellow at the National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan.  Her experience in the nonprofit sector includes work as a co-editor (with Dr. Robert Coles and Dr. Terry Lee) of DoubleTake Magazine; the Institute of Early American History and Culture; the National Institutes of Health,  and many arts organizations.

Brad is a graduate of CNU, and specializes in developing university-community relationships focused on service.  He works with students, faculty, and community organizations to connect, strengthen and sustain the good work happening around Newport News and Virginia.  Brad coordinates the service program "Volunteer CNU", and the annual CNU Day of Service.  He also serves as the Program Coordinator for the Commonwealth Leadership Institute (cli.cnu.edu), which he helped develop in 2006.   Prior to his work at the university, he traveled nationally as a singer/songwriter and guest speaker, primarily focusing on themes of 'social capital' and the potential of a small group of like-minded citizens to positively impact a city.  He has lived in Newport News for over ten years, and enjoys playing guitar, playing sports, and gathering with friends.

Jacqui Mesecher

Jacqui is a graduate of Tennessee’s Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics.  She is the Secretary for the Center for Service Learning and Social Entrepreneurship as well as the Pre-health Program directed by Dr. Harold Grau.  Jacqui has had nearly 16 years experience in the administrative and customer service fields.  Her first job out of high school was at the Disney Store in Aiea, Hawaii.  Jacqui and her husband are the proud parents of a 10-year-old Beagle-Jack Russell-mutt named Spenser.


 

 

Phoenix Project: Service Learning through course curriculum, focused on Southeast Newport News Community. Social Entrepreneurship: This is a new Minor that will prepare students to combine best business practices with meaningful community work. International Partnership: CNU service and service learning opportunities through our signature program in Ecuador. CNU Connect: For students who desire to engage local agencies, schools and organizations throughout the semester.
