A non-profit Christian housing ministry that builds homes with partner families. Homes are constructed with volunteer labor, donated money and materials, then sold to partner families with a 20-year, no interest loan. Volunteers may work with our construction supervisor and homeowners on various stages of construction, pounding nails, painting, gardening etc. Volunteers are also needed to work in our ReStore - a thrift store for new and used building materials that are sold to the public. The Restore is Habitat for Humanity's building materials warehouse. We accept donations of building materials and sell them to the public at 50-90% below retail. All of our proceeds go to building houses on the Penisula. We have just finished our 106th house! We rely mostly on volunteers and donations to keep us running.
We are always looking for volunteers to give a helping hand. Whether it's once a week, every other week, or an hour a day we would really appreciate it. There is always something to do here at our store cleaning items, sweeping, helping customers load and unload, organizing, stocking items, ect. We are looking to have a regular and dependable volunteer basis.

Hours: Varied. This organization provides 24/7 emergency medical response to the local community. The county is located across the James River Bridge, and is approximately a 20-minute drive from CNU. There are presently 16 CNU students volunteering at this Rescue Squad. All volunteers select their own schedule.
Requirements: Complete application, background check, and orientation. Minimum of 12 hours each month. This is a non-profit, volunteer led organization that responds to medical emergencies throughout Isle of Wight County. Volunteers are expected to complete Commonwealth of Virginia certification as either an emergency vehicle driver and/or as an Emergency Medical Technician. The organization pays for all training.

The program will consist of bimonthly workshops facilitated by iNSPIRE’s Workshop Team which will focus on a specific college preparation topic chosen by Denbigh students. Additionally, iNSPIRE Mentors will work one-on-one with students both during and outside of these workshops concerning the workshops topic covered as well as life challenges and experiences as they build the foundation for a broader, potentially long-term relationship.

Animal Resource Foundation (ARF) is a no-kill animal welfare group that operates a spay/neuter clinic, facilitaties adoptions and assists with feral cat colonies. Volunteers are needed to care for adoptable cats on display at PETCO in Newport News! Cats from various rescue groups temporarily live at PETCO while they await adoption. The cats need to be cared for every morning and every evening. Volunteer shifts are 1.5-2 hours long and it is preferred to have volunteers come once a week on a set schedule, although every-other-week shifts are possible. It is easily done alone, but also fun with a friend! We will accept all volunteers, but we prefer semester-long commitment. Must not have been convicted of animal cruelty. Must be able to commit to a weekly shift schedule or an alternating, every-other-week schedule with a friend. This position is workable for the hearing impaired. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who enjoys cats - they get very excited when their volunteer shows up to love them and take care of them!
