13th Annual 106.9 The Fox & FM99 Mayflower Marathon

57 hours of food and fund drive giving!  Approximately 50 volunteers are needed for 3 hours to volunteer  to sort, pack, weigh & label boxes of non-perishable foods. Family Game Night

Offering parents a free way to spend quality time with their kids as well as reward them for good grades and behavior after the first report card goes home.  There will be board games and physical activities for the families to participate in together.  Volunteers will be needed to help in facilitating the games and making sure the night runs smoothly.  Contact Christina Cochran at Christina.Cochran1@gmail.com or 818-518-7238 with questions and/or to volunteer to help facilitate an activity/game with others (everything will be provided).  It's going to be a very fun night!

Annual Science and Technology Fair

Advanced students and faculty are needed to be judges from 11:45 to 2:05 p.m.  Volunteers will be given a brief introduction and then will begin judging.  Categories include: Behavioral and Social Science, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Computers, Earth & Space Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Gerontology, Mathematics, Medicine and Health, Microbiology, Physics, and Zoology.  Contact Jeannine Henriquez at 886-7700 ext 1140 or jeannine.henriquez@nn.k12.va.us with your title, name, address, phone number, email, and desired categories.  More details will be sent after you accept our invitation.  Please reply as soon as possible.

Oldies but Goodies Movie Series

Holiday Mail for Heroes Mail Sorting

The Holiday Mail for Heroes Program will feature the collection, sorting and distribution of holiday cards for military and veteran families.  From November 11-December 7, you are invited to send holiday cards with messages of thanks and holiday cheer for ‘Any Service Member’ to the special post office box set up by Pitney Bowes (see flyer for more information).  After Pitney Bowes conducts a detailed screening of the cards, they will ship them to participating chapters.  The Hampton Roads Chapter is one of the participating Holiday Mail for Heroes chapters and will hold a December 11th volunteer sorting to prepare the cards for disbursement to our local military installations, Wounded Warriors Units, VA Medical Center and Service to Armed Forces’ partner sites.  For more information on participating in Holiday Mail for Heroes, please contact Sheila Keenan, Service to Armed Forces Coordinator at the Hampton Roads Chapter (757) 838-7320 or visit www.redcross.org/holidaymail.

Approximately 300 volunteers are needed.  Opportunities include: Present Stuffer, Before Event Invitation Deliverer, Before Event Decorator, Before Event Set-up/Break Down, Day of Event Check-in Tables, Day of Event Bus/Group Escorts, Day of Event Hall Monitors, Day of Event Room Attendants, Day of Event Food Runners, Day of Event Time Keepers, Day of Event Photo Helpers, Day of Event Candy Replenishers, Day of Event Floaters, Day of Event Security.  Volunteer hours are: weeks before the event, during primary school hours, morning (any), afternoon (any), and evening of event (5-11).  Contact Lauren Cecora at 757-247-8950 or lwiesner@nngov.com.  Volunteers on the night of the event will have to attend a mandatory run through of the event to ensure that everyone is competent in their assignments before the night. Street Team for Newport News

Monday-Friday, between 8am and 5pm, Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center, Newport News

A group of volunteers are needed to spread the word about upcoming events at our facility and to recruit school-age kids to participate in upcoming youth programs. Tasks include, but are not limited to, handing out flyers at events in the facility, helping to decorate display boards, visiting local organizations to distribute marketing material, and assisting our marketing specialist with additional tasks. Paws for a Cause

Phoenix Project: Service Learning through course curriculum, focused on Southeast Newport News Community. Social Entrepreneurship: This is a new Minor that will prepare students to combine best business practices with meaningful community work. International Partnership: CNU service and service learning opportunities through our signature program in Ecuador. CNU Connect: For students who desire to engage local agencies, schools and organizations throughout the semester.
